When purchasing any weight loss product, it is important to do your research. Many people are exchanging their opinions about Medifast on DietBlogTalk.com

Overview

Medifast® joins the ranks of weight loss programs that run on pre-packaged foods and a revolution in dieting. Such programs often claim that their products are all a dieter will ever need. However, we’re skeptical of such claims, simply because they are not a long-term solution to eating healthy. Nevertheless, Medifast® has garnered approval from many medical people because its product line, which consists of a wide variety of food products, can be the jumpstart that many dieters need to get going toward a healthier lifestyle. This program is diabetes friendly, and with the epidemic of this disease in our country we certainly can’t and won’t discount the value of what they have to offer.

Program at a Glance

Medifast® promotes a “5&1 Plan” that consists of five pre-packaged food options and one “lean & green” meal per day.

Program in Focus

Medifast® meals are advertised as low-calorie, low-fat options that deliver protein and fiber. Dieters are directed to select five of these food options per day. From bars to shakes to pudding and even to scrambled eggs, dieters can create quite a variety of meal options on a given day.

And then, somewhere between these five meals, dieters are to consume one “lean & green” meal that consists of lean meat or fish and three servings of approved vegetables, such as greens, broccoli, eggplant, or tomatoes.

As Medifast® dieters progress, they may add on different snacks and even “flavor infusers,” but the overall methodology appears to remain the same. Medifast® also offers meal plans specifically formulated for men, women, and diabetics.

Positives

•    Variety of food options.

•    Diabetic options.

Negatives

•    Pre-packaged foods can become unappetizing.

•    May not be cost effective.

•    May leave dieter in the lurch when the foods lose their appeal.

Final Thoughts

Medifast® is an interesting weight loss concept – especially for dieters who don’t want to feel hungry while they’re trying to lose weight. And along with exercise and a stimulant-free fat burner, Medifast® might do some good. But over the long haul, consumers will have to think about learning to eat for themselves. In other words, pre-packaged plans like Medifast® are only so helpful, and then it’s up to the individual to take the reins and start living a healthy lifestyle. this is one program that just might be a good way to start on that journey.
